HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT COURSES

  • Our courses are designed to fulfil the curriculum requirements of the Ontario Ministry of Education and meet the curriculum standards of both Canadian and American senior high school guidelines. Our program includes 114 hours of instructional time to fulfill the curriculum requirements.
  • Upon successful completion of the course, Ontario students students will receive an Ontario Ministry of Education course credit for inclusion in their Ontario Student Record.
  • Credits are awarded by the Toronto Catholic District School Board and are open to students everywhere.
  • Students from schools outside of Ontario may have the academic courses accredited by their individual schools or local school boards. These students are advised to get preapproval prior to applying by printing the appropriate course outline below (bottom of page) and bringing it to their guidance counsellors for review.

English, Grade 12, University Preparation (ENG 4U)
What better place to study English than Ireland, home to some of the most accomplished writers of the 19th and 20th centuries! Study James Joyce in Dublin, “Angela’s Ashes” in Limerick, William Trevor in Cork and W.B.Yeats in Galway. This has been our most popular course since its introduction in 1998. The locations are guaranteed to stimulate high levels of interest, enjoyment and success in students literary and communications development. Students will study works appropriate to, and augmented by, the areas and locations in Ireland which we will be visiting. We will examine literature, plays, poems, prose, fiction and essays by various Irish writers. Surrounded by the rich literary heritage of such places as Dublin, Cork, and Galway, how could one fail to be stimulated and elevated to heights of literary appreciation? Students will study a variety of challenging and stimulating texts, in order to develop their writing, critical thinking and an overall appreciation of literature. Students will write a journal, essays and an independent literary research project.
Prerequisite: Grade 11 English University Preparation (ENG 3U)

English, Grade 12, College Preparation (ENG 4C)
This course emphasizes the development of literacy, critical thinking, and communication skills. Students study the content, form, and style of informational texts and literary works from Ireland and other countries; write reports, correspondence, and persuasive essays; and analyse media forms, and audiences. An important focus is on establishing appropriate voice and using business and technical language with precision and clarity

English, Grade 11, University Preparation (ENG 3U)
The course focuses on the literature of Ireland by studying and analyzing a variety of challenging and stimulating texts to emphasize the development of the English language. Students will keep a journal, write essays, and analyze challenging texts and authors chosen to reflect and enhance the locations and sites visited in Ireland.
Prerequisite: Grade 10 English Academic (ENG 2D)

Studies in Literature, Grade 12, University Preparation (ETS 4U)
The course focuses on the literature of Ireland by studying a variety of challenging and stimulating texts, by authors such as Hugh Leonard, Jonathan Swift, Brendan Behan, James Joyce, Oliver Goldsmith, and Oscar Wilde to mention but a few. This course is for students with a special interest in English who wish to develop an appreciation and love of Anglo-Irish and Anglo-Gaelic literature. Students will study works appropriate to, and augmented by, the areas and locations in Ireland which we will be visiting. We will examine literature, plays, poems, prose, fiction and essays by various Irish authors. Students will keep a journal, write essays, and complete an independent literary study paper.
Prerequisite: Grade 11 English University Preparation (ENG 3U)
